New Name In Missouri Hoops Recruiting
One such player is power forward-center James Still of Detroit Community School in Michigan. Still, who averages 16.6 points, 14 rebounds and two blocks per game, Still has been receiving a lot of mail from MU and earlier this season he received a phone call from Tigers assistant coach T.J. Cleveland.
"He had seen me play at a tournament and said he liked how I play. He said their program just fits the style I play. They get up and down a lot," said Still, who has interest from quite a few high Division I programs. "I'm looking for a system where they get up and down the floor a lot."
Still isn't a true post player, in that he likes to score from the outside as well. He fashions his game after Kevin Garnett, he said, and he runs the floor well for a player with such length.
"His touch is beautiful for a big man. He can shoot from anywhere 17 feet and in … He's got great character and has never missed a practice. He's very willing to learn," said Detroit Community School coach Anthony Woods, who noted that he knows a bit about the careers of MU head coach Mike Anderson and Cleveland.
Still hasn't begun to narrow down a list that includes quite a few MAC schools in addition to Michigan, Michigan State, Memphis, Syracuse, Xavier and others. He'll take visits this summer and go from there. He said one of those trips will be to Mizzou, and while he likes the attention from the in-state and regional powers, he has no problem going elsewhere.
"It doesn't matter where I go, as long as it's the best place for me," he said.
It'll be a while before we know if that could be Mizzou, but Still is certainly one to keep an eye on …
