One of the top defenders in the state of Illinois has been waiting to see who offers him before making a decision or had he already made a pledge to one school?
It appears that East St. Louis defensive end Ty Phillips made a commitment to one of his favorite schools a few weeks ago.
"I committed to Missouri about three weeks ago, when they officially offered me," Phillips told Inside Mizzou Monday afternoon. "I decided to go ahead and make it public Sunday."
Currently the standout All-State defender has three official offers in hand, Missouri, Southern Illinois and Western Illinois. He is expecting more in the future.
"I finally got my ACT score back so I can start taking some official visits," Phillips said. "I plan on still taking my visits, although I'm committed to Missouri."
According to Phillips, Missouri has always been one of his top choices.
"My dad and I love it there," Phillips said. "It's a great school and they have a great coaching staff."
InsideMizzou.com reached out to Ty's head Coach Sunkett at East St. Louis High School to get his thoughts on his standout prospect.
"Missouri is getting a great young man and a great pass rusher. He is one of the best pass rushers I have ever coached."
Phillips had over 18 sacks his senior season and earned All-State honors this year.
"Earning All-State honors in Illinois isn't an easy task," Coach Sunkett said. "I'm very proud of Ty."
Phillips is participating in the Offense/Defense All-Star game this weekend in South Carolina.
"I'm excited about playing in the All-Star game," Phillips said. "I'm excited about being a Tiger."
