Missouri Head Football Coach Gary Pinkel has always loved recruiting the Lone Star State. There are numerous Tigers already on his roster and several more due after National Signing Day on Wednesday.
One thing the veteran Big 12 coach wouldn't mind doing is establishing a pipeline at one of the top Class 4A programs in the State of Texas, Rockwall Heath.
Pinkel already garnered the commitment of the Hawks best player in 2009 in running back Kendial Lawrence, and it appears that the Tiger coaching staff is already recruiting some of the team's top talent in 2010.
Heath offensive lineman Austin Woods already has four official offers from SMU, TCU, Arizona and Texas Tech, other schools that are showing the talented lineman interest includes Missouri, Oklahoma, Baylor and Arkansas.
Does Woods have interest in perhaps blocking for Lawrence again in the future.
"It would be nice to block for him at the next level," Woods stated. "He is such a great back, he hits the hole so fast, he makes his linemen better because we don't have to block very long."
Woods will definitely try to take an unofficial visit to check out Columbia Missouri and meet the Tiger coaching staff.
"They have a great team," Woods said. "They have had a lot of success the last few years. They are definitely in the top tier of the Big 12."
Does Woods have an early favorite?
"Not right now," Woods said. "I want to take unofficial visits to a lot of schools that are showing me interest. I will take in some of their camps this summer and see first hand how things are. I plan on keeping an open mind with no favorites at this point."
Woods did attend SMU's Junior Day this past Saturday and came away from the Dallas campus impressed with the Mustang coaching staff and campus.
"I enjoyed it a lot there," Woods said. "It was very informative. I went to a couple of games at SMU last fall, it's a nice campus and it's close to home."
