Last year, linebacker Anthony Beard injured his knee, hurting his chances to play football at the next level. Now, however, Anthony believes that he is back to 100 percent, and with the scholarship offers rolling in, I am not one to argue.
"(My recovery) is going good. I am fully recovered now, got my release a couple of months ago. Now I'm just trying to get back into shape and get ready for two-a-days," Anthony told InsideMizzou Thursday night.
His list of offers include SMU, Missouri, Colorado, Colorado State, Arizona and Wyoming, but he has confidence that more offers will come in once he can prove that he is back to game day shape this season.
"I've been talking to a lot of colleges and they are like ‘man I really like you, but your knee injury kind of set up back, but you still one of our top linebackers, so were gonna watch you and see how you do,'" Beard insisted.
Right now, based on the schools that have given Anthony offers, he has set a top three. "Arizona, Colorado and Missouri are the three," he acknowledged.
Anthony has yet to make the trip to Missouri because his summer has been busy, but he does plan on it. "I'll probably go during school when I get my official visit."
Beard admitted that he did not know much about Mizzou until the past few seasons, when they have proven that they can contend with some of the best. Having watched a few of the games over the past few years, Anthony told me that he liked their winning way, and one player in paticular who sits at the top of the depth chart. "They've got a really good linebacker in Weatherspoon there."
Anthony also commented on the coaching staff. "They just send me a bunch of letters and stuff. They seem nice, easy to get along with. I have really just been talking to coach Odem, but the other coaches have been sending me letters and stuff, funny letters."
When Anthony finally does decide on a school, he is mostly looking for a place that makes him happy. "Somewhere I can make friends real easy, somewhere I feel comfortable. Being away from home really doesnt matter," he reported. "I want to be able to say this is a place I could be, I feel comfortable with it. someplace that makes me feel at home."
Basically, "I'm just looking for the perfect place."
Do not expect Beard to make his decision too soon. He is hoping that once he gets back onto the field, he can prove to more schools that he deserves an offer. He also plans to make official visits to several schools, including Mizzou, this fall.
