A quick Q&A with Corey Johnson on David Richard

Supermizzou correspondent BATS received a phone call from Hazelwood East Head Football Coach Corey Johnson this morning in which he shared his perspectives on the stories surrounding the pending transfer of talented running back David Richard from Michigan State to Missouri.

Q: "Coach Johnson, what's the scoop on the alleged transfer of David Richard from Michigan State?"

A: "David Richard's dad has already traveled to MSU and has completed all necessary papers needed for David Richard to be released."

Q: "Coach, what about the reports that Richard may transfer to Mizzou?"

A: "All signs indicate that David will transfer to Mizzou after completing the current term at MSU.  David wants to be closer to home and in considering Illinois and Mizzou, David will transfer to Mizzou because a transfer to Illinois would result in David having to sit out 2 years, according to interconference transfers."

Q: "Coach, is David's desire to remain a tailback?"

A: "No question!  After a top quality rushing season as a true freshman on a Big Ten team, David will continue on as a tailback."

David Richard burst on the scene as a true freshman this season for Michigan State as their featured tailback.

The 6-2, 230 lbs. Richard has signed transfer papers and could leave campus in May after the spring quarter.

Richard, a consensus high school All-American in 2001 at Hazelwood East, carried the ball 127 times last season for 611 yards, a 4.8-yards-per-carry average and five touchdowns. He also had 14 catches for 88 yards.
