Tiger Football Recruiting Notebook

A look at some top Tiger targets as recruiting season starts to kick into high gear as visits near

P>Coach Pinkel was scheduled to be recruiting in St. Louis on Monday.

Coach Henson will be in Florida on Tuesday or Wednesday to visit with ATH Mike Douglas 6'4" 225 4.6 Largo, FL and his parents.  Douglas wants to visit Missouri soon, but won't know when he will take his visit until he talks to Coach Henson.

Missouri's Brian Jones continues to recruit ATH Marquis Fruge 6'0" 200 4.5 Houston (TX) Lutheran North, who is still waiting on an official offer from Missouri.  Fruge is hearing from Kansas and Kansas State, as well.  He's talking to Coach Jones weekly, and expects to see Coach Jones this week.

ATH Marcus Murphy 5'10" 180 4.4 expected to receive a visit from Coach Steckel on Tuesday, and said that they would set up his official visit to Missouri at that time.  Murphy reported over 2,000 all-purpose yards this season for his DeSoto, TX high school team.

When I asked Murphy if he was pretty excited about setting up his Missouri visit, he replied, "Yes sir!"

He reported that Missouri is still on top of his list, and that Missouri's the only school that he knows for sure that he wants to visit.  He reports offers from Iowa State, Tulsa, Kansas, SMU, Rice, and Louisiana Tech, among others.  He said that he may visit some other schools, but it sounds to me like he wants to come to Missouri.

These are three of the more than a dozen candidates for the final six spots Missouri is expected to fill.

So far, for this weekend (12-05-09), I've been able to confirm that Xavier Smith will be visiting Missouri.  I'm pretty sure there will be others.  James Franklin may take his official this weekend, or may wait a week or two.  It might make sense for Franklin to be present when Marcus Lucas takes his official to Mizzou.

The Franklin family is looking forward to having Coach Walker in their home for dinner on Tuesday evening.

Bud Sasser and Carey Fortson are still playing.  In fact, Sasser's Denton Ryan team will play Denton Guyer this Saturday. Sasser had an in-home visit scheduled with Coach Walker on Monday night.  Franklin expressed an interest in attending that game, and getting a look at Sasser.

Regarding Daryl Williams, Franklin said, "I don't think Daryl's going to visit Mizzou."

2011 commit Corbin Berkstresser seems a likely candidate to be a serious recruiter for the Tigers regarding next years class. He is in touch with several of the top prospects in-state and has mentioned that he will do his best to bring as many of the top Missouri prospects with him.
