Tyler Talks About His Switch to Mizzou

New QB commit tells us when he knew he would be a Tiger

ShowMeMizzou.com caught up with new Tiger QB commit, Tyler Gabbert 6'0" 190lbs , after he returned home from his official visit to Missouri where he gave the Tigers his oral commitment.

"I had a great time." said Gabbert. " My brother (Blaine) was my host, and I got to watch practice and hang out with the other recruits and commits. I was pretty familiar with the staff ,coaches and players already, but I got a chance to really check out my major of business and I was impressed."

Like his older brother, Tiger starting QB Blaine Gabbert, Tyler had first been committed to Nebraska before de-committing and switching to Missouri.

"I have always been a Missouri fan for all of my life and it has been in the back of my head about Missouri. Once I de-committed fron Nebraska I knew I would be going to Missouri and would be a Tiger."

Tyler had the chance to get to know fellow QB commit James Franklin during his visit. He talked about it and the coming competition for quarterback at Missouri.

" I got to hang out with James during the visit. We ate dinner together on Saturday night and watch practice together. We got along great and it will be no problem being friends off the field but competitors on it." Gabbert said.

Gabbert will be enrolling at Missouri in January to get ready for spring ball and compete for the back-up position. I asked how familiar he was with the offense and if he thought having Blaine there to learn from would help give him an edge.

" We ran the spread at Parkway West, nothing as high level as what Mizzou runs, but I know the basics of what they run. It will be great to have Blaine there. We talk about quarterbacking and that now. So it should be fun."

While he has his decision out of the way, Tyler is interested in helping other potential recruits make their choice Missouri.

" I have talked with some other recruits. Obviously Curtis (Carter) and I talk and are friends. I talk to Marcus Lucas and will continue to do so. I might have to go back up and visit my brother next weekend."

He will be graduating mid-year and participating in spring ball with the Tigers.
