White Looking To Increase Role For 2010

Tiger red-shirt defensive back talk first season and next year

After a season spent on the scout team, freshman DB Matt White 6'0" 180 lbs. 4.5 forty, has been getting increased reps during the early bowl practices.  One of the things I've noticed about White is that he seems to always be around the ball, and also possesses good ball skills.

White talked about getting increased reps.  "It feels good being able to put your skills to their full potential.  Scout team, you got to hold back.  You got to keep the offense safe.  So, it's finally fun to put all your skills out there."

White said that he played both ways in high school, at receiver and on the corner.  He talked about playing safety at Missouri. "I like safety a lot, but I'll play wherever Missouri needs me.  I can play corner.  I think it (playing safety) was more about the depth on the team."

Matt said that he's trying to gain weight, and that Coach Steckel wants him to eventually get up to around 190-195 lbs. He said that he's looking to lower his forty time, as well.

He said that he's doing well in school, and that Chemistry is his most difficult, and least favorite class.  Still, he said that he's making a "high B" in that class.

Matt White is a very pleasant and articulate, and obviously very intelligent young man.  He talked about watching from the sidelines during games this season.  "I'm glad to be getting out there. It was hard waiting on the sidelines.  I've always been out there for every play............. But, you just got to take your role, and do whatever the team needs."

He's looking forward to spring ball, and climbing the depth chart.
