Freshman DE Michael Sam 6'3" 240 lbs. 4.6 forty, is a quick and talented weak side DE who specializes in getting to the QB.
Sam talked about how practice has been going. "Practice is going real good. It's coming to and end, and I'm looking forward to spring ball, to get some extra playing time."
He talked about working on pass rush moves. "It's going pretty good, but when I get back there, I can't hit Blaine (Gabbert). But, it's pretty exciting when I do get back there............ I'm trying to work on my outside-inside move. Trying to straighten that up. Right now, speed rush is what I do best."
Sam is often matched up against Elvis Fisher during practice. He talked about that experience. "Elvis Fisher. He's pretty good. That is a challenge."
Michael talked about his goals heading into the off-season and spring ball. "Climb the depth chart. Get stronger and faster, and just climb that depth chart. It will be good competition. I'm looking forward to it."
Michael Sam said that he is doing well in school. "First semester went pretty good. Had to put a lot more into it, but it went pretty good for my first semester. I made good grades. I'm studying secondary education, with an emphasis in history.
He's looking forward to the Texas Bowl. "Going back to Houston? I'm excited about getting to go to my home town, get to see some friends. It's real close to my home, twenty minutes from my home to Reliant Stadium. So, I'm excited about my first bowl game."
