Freshman DE Brayden Burnett 6'3" 245 lbs. 4.7 forty, spent this past season working with the scout team. During the early bowl practices, he got his first chance to shine since fall camp, and he's impressed observers with his non-stop motor. He took time after practice one day to visit with ShowMeMizzou.
Burnett talked about getting to practice in the Tigers defense. "Practice is going good. I'm enjoying it right now."
Brayden talked about his goals for the off-season workouts. "I want to make all the Big 12 standards. Right now, in weightlifting, I'm just shy of them by a few pounds. So, that's my goal. I'm going to get those Big 12 standards, and then go from there."
Burnett has put on "about 15 pounds of muscle" since he arrived at Missouri, and said that he thinks he may be faster, too. He'll be tested in the forty and undergo other testing in the spring.
He talked about how school is going, and how he's fitting in with his teammates. "They say the first semester is always the toughest, trying to get acclimated. But, if that's as tough as it's going to get, it won't be too bad............ All the guys are great! We have a great time, and we bond. On the field, everyone understands it's time to do work. And, off the field, we have a good time."
Burnett is currently listed as third-string strong side DE. He talked about competing in the spring. "I would like to move up to number two. Then, try to work my way up from there............ There's a lot of great athletes here, but I believe the competition just makes us all better."
Burnett feels that he's made the most of his experience on the scout team this past season, and saw it as an opportunity to improve his own play. "Going against the first-team offense, one of the best offenses in the country, there's no way you can't get better."
