Tigers Escape Lubbock With OT Win 94-89

Missouri comes out of overtime with 94-89 win after big Red Radier comeback

On Wednesday evening, the Missouri Tigers (14-3, 2-0) escaped from Lubbock, Texas with an overtime conference road win over the Texas Tech Red Raiders (12-4, 0-2) by the final score of 94-89.

The Tigers led by 11 points heading down the stretch, before Tech's John Roberson heated up from outside the 3-PT arc.  Roberson was "unconscious" late, and scored a game-high 25 points, all in the second half, that got his team and the fans back into the game.  Tech scored 13 points in the final 1:01, capped by two Roberson free throws with 15.8 seconds left, to tie it at 79 and force the overtime.

Missouri Coach Mike Anderson talked about his team's win.  "We were fortunate to win it in overtime.  We had some young guys come off the bench that really stepped up.  I thought Marcus Denmon had ice in his veins tonight............. He answered Roberson big time........... But, it was a total team effort........... It was one of those deals where momentum shifted to the home team............. On the road, it's going to be like that.  You just got to find a way."
Zaire Taylor and J.T. Tiller each fouled out, and watched from the bench as Missouri's youngsters closed out the team's first road win of the season.  Denmon finished the game with 20 points and 6 rebounds, but just as important as his scoring down the stretch was the leadership he provided, as he took charge of defending Roberson in the overtime period.
Mike Dixon turned the ball over on a ill-advised pass attempt with 20 seconds left in regulation, and Missouri clinging to a 2-point lead.  He then came back in the overtime period, stepping up to hit 6-6 FTs to ice the win.

Coach Anderson continued to talk about his team.  "I think this team is learning. This team still has a lot of work, but you can see the potential."

For the second consecutive conference game, the Tigers won the battle on the boards, with a rebounding edge over TTU of 60-52.  Kim English registered his first double-double as a Tiger, with 20 points and 10 rebounds.  Laurence Bowers contributed 10 points and 9 rebounds.

Afterwards, Coach Anderson talked about English.  "I thought Kimmie settled down in the second half, and played a much better second half."
