The recent coaching changes at Texas Tech prompted 2010 OL Denton Simek 6'6" 271 Prague, OK to re-open his recruitment, and he is now considering other schools, including Missouri, Arkansas, TCU, Tulsa, Nebraska, and Baylor.
He said that he would not be attending Texas Tech, saying, "I just didn't feel comfortable with it............ The whole incident with Leach just didn't sit well with me, and left me feeling uneasy."
Denton Simek said that he's been planning to visit Missouri this weekend, January 29-30, but the possibility of a major ice-storm in the region may prevent him from making that trip.
Simek underwent knee surgery in October to repair a torn ACL, and is just now getting back to being able to jog and begin some weight training.
In addition to rehabbing from his knee injury, Denton is facing another slightly difficult situation. All of the schools recruiting Simek are offering him a spot as a grey-shirt, which means that he wouldn't enroll until January 2011, and would actually begin his college career as an early entrant scholarship athlete in the 2011 recruiting class. He could be in line to come to Missouri for 2010, if another scholarship were to open up before then.
I asked Denton if he knows what he's going to do. He replied, "No, not really. I mean, I like Mizzou a lot, but I just got to keep praying, and weighing my options and everything."
Simek has some experience as a long-snapper, and he said that it appears likely that he would play inside at Missouri, but indicated that he could play right tackle, as well.
He talked about the possibility of the grey-shirt. "If I don't get a scholarship anywhere else, I'll have to. And, with my knee injury this year, it wouldn't be that bad of a deal. It would give my knee time to heal, and get stronger and better. I want to get in, and get in the mix right now, but you know, the Lord has a plan for me, and it's worked pretty well so far."
ShowMeMizzou will continue to follow Denton Simek's recruitment, as his decision should be forthcoming.
