Tigers Get Road Win Over Buffs

Missouri Tigers roll to conference road win over Colorado 84-66

The Missouri Tigers (17-6, 5-3) capped off the first half of the conference regular season with their second conference road win, 84-66 over the Colorado Buffaloes (11-12, 2-7).

Missouri was lead by Marcus Denmon, with a career-high 22 points on 6-9 FGs, 6-6 FTs, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists, and Kim English chipped in with 21 points on 5-11 FGs, 7-8 FTs, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists.  Keith Ramsey had a big game with 10 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 blocks, as he and Steve Moore (4 points, 3 rebounds) gave the Tigers some inside scoring.

Coach Anderson talked about the win.  "We talk about the recipe for winning, and that is trusting and sharing, and sharing the basketball, being unselfish.  And, I think you saw that this afternoon............... The strength of our team always is our bench.  And, it was more true today. The bench played well.  The starters played well, and got off to a good start.  Steve Moore, I told him if I had a game ball, I would give it to him.  A guy that came in and played 15 minutes, and was very, very productive.............. I thought it was a total team effort, and the stats reflect that."

It wasn't a coincidence that English shot the ball well on a day when he appeared to be interested in playing defense and rebounding.  While there is still considerable room for improvement in English's defensive play, it appeared to me that playing defense and rebounding were more important to him on Saturday than in recent outings.  His improved shooting is a direct result of his being more focused on the defensive end, and more determined on the boards.

Coach Anderson talked about the team's renewed offense.  "We came with the right mindset, and that's starting inside.  Get the game and attack it inside........... We shared the basketball.  We got the right guys shooting the basketball, and they got good shots."

The Tigers had 20 assists on 27 made baskets.  They also picked up several charges defensively, to go with 11 steals, and 6 blocks.  Missouri's bench outscored Colorado's 39-14.

At this point in the season, I think most Missouri fans would take a 5-3 record for the second half of the conference slate.  Maybe the Tigers can get on a roll, and surpass that level of achievement.  Coach Anderson made some adjustments in the playing rotation on Saturday.  The Tigers played a good part of the game with four guards, or with Kim English up front, with one big and three guards.
