Signee Spotlight 2010: Greg White

An indepth look at Tiger 2010 signee RB Greg White by coaches and staff

TB GREG WHITE  6'2"  215  4.6  De Queen (AR)

br />White is a gifted athlete who excelled on both sides of the ball at De Queen High School, as a running back as well as a defensive end.  He has a physical running style which reminds observers of a power running back, but also has displayed excellent quickness, vision and athleticism.  White is a two-time All-State and three-time All-Conference performer as a running back, who also earned honors for his play on defense.  He ran for 1,240 yards and 25 touchdowns during his senior season, averaging 9.0 yards per carry.  He had 1,406 yards from scrimmage and 23 TDs during his junior season, and posted 1,002 yards as a sophomore. White is a three-sport standout who also lettered in basketball and track and field for his school.  He earned all-state honors on the hardwood, and set a school record for most double-doubles in a season.  He averaged 21 points and 11 rebounds per game as a junior.

His high school coach is Chris Vereen, and his parents are  Greg White and Elmyra Brown.  He enjoys listening to music and hanging out with friends.  White chose Missouri over Arkansas, Mississippi, and Oklahoma, among others, and cited the family atmosphere within the football program at Mizzou as a major drawing point.

Speaking of Greg (Fatty) White, Coach Bereen said, "He's just a phenomenal kid!"

Coach Bereen told me that Missouri assistant coach Barry Odom was recruiting White as a safety, but after Gary Pinkel reviewed his junior season film, they wanted him as a RB.

White's primary recruiter at Missouri was Assistant Coach Barry Odom.  Here's some of what Coach Odom says about White.  "He looks right, 6'2" 215.  His 215 looks a heck of a lot better than my 215!  He's kind of their do everything guy at their school.  He's the team captain, president of the school.  He could probably be mayor of the town.  He's very talented, musically.  Gospel singer, pretty impressive!  He's a well-rounded kid.  We're very fortunate to have guys like him on our team."

JP:"One of the first things you notice about Greg White is how nimble and athletic he is for his size. He has great feet, balance and vision running the ball and also has a nice burst of speed. He appears faster then his listed 4.6 forty with his ability to run away from people. While you may think he is a power back , he shows nice moves and elusiveness to go along with his strength. It appears as though White is starting a trend with the Tigers looking to recruit more backs with size."

Greg: "Greg White is really an all-purpose, do-everything type back, just a little bigger than recent MU TBs.  While he doesn't have blazing speed, you don't see people running him down from behind, and there's not anything on the football field that he doesn't do well."
