Game Preview: Missouri vs. Nebraska

The Missouri Tigers take to the road to play the Cornhuskers in Lincoln

On Saturday evening (5:00 P.M., Big 12 Network), the Missouri Tigers (19-7, 7-4) travel to Lincoln to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers (13-13, 1-10) in Conference action.

Nebraska is coming off of a 91-87 road loss at #7 Kansas State this week.  The Huskers are very good defensively, and try to control tempo to create a low-scoring, possession game.  They've gotten out of character in their last two games, surrendering 91 points in each of those losses.  The Cornhuskers are allowing just 63.6 points a game this season, and are holding opponents to just 42% FG%.  Senior Ryan Anderson leads his team with 10.7 points/game and 4.8 rebounds/game.  He scored 22 points at Kansas State on Wednesday on 8 of 9 shooting from the floor, including hitting 5 of 6 from 3-PT range.  Nebraska hit on 14 of 21 3-PT FGAs overall, and assisted on 23 of 28 made baskets in Manhattan.

While the Cornhuskers do have size on their roster, of late they seem to be going with more of a four guard line-up.  On the season, Nebraska has been very good shooting the ball from behind the arc (40%), and also do a good job of taking care of and sharing the ball.  They're not a very good rebounding team, nor do they shoot well from the FT line.

It will be interesting to see if Nebraska tries to return to a more deliberate half-court pace, or if they will try to get into an up and down, 90-point shoot out with Missouri.

Missouri is coming off of one of its better showings of the season, and seems to be figuring out a formula for winning.  It'll be interesting to see if the Tigers can sustain their improved play on the road at Nebraska in a venue where they've struggled in recent years.

This is a big game for the Tigers, as they try to build some momentum heading into the season's final two weeks.  They're trying to improve, and also become more consistent.  I'm interested in seeing the Tigers finish the regular season strong, and roar into Kansas City for the Big 12 Tourney, and on into the NCAA Tournament with momentum, while playing their best basketball of the season.
