Tigers in pursuit of heavily recruited football prospect with Missouri ties

The Missouri Tigers are looking for a few good lineman

ShowMeMizzou was recently able to confirm that 2011 OT Matt Hegarty  6'5"  270  5.1  Aztec (NM) (****) has received a Missouri offer.  He acknowledged that in addition to Missouri, he currently holds over 20 other offers, including Arizona, Arizona State, California, Colorado, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon, San Diego State, Stanford, Texas, and USC, among others.

Hegarty said that he's already visited Northwestern, Notre Dame, Stanford, New Mexico, Arizona, Oregon for a camp, and Texas' junior day.

Matt's grandfather played football at Missouri during the early 1960s.

Hegarty shared his thoughts about Missouri, and his recruitment. "Missouri is one of the schools that we've talked about maybe considering," said Hegarty.  "I'd like to learn more about them, as we keep going along.  I'm still pretty open-minded, and trying to figure things out.............. I've been thinking about maybe getting with my grandpa, and going out there and visiting."

Missouri Assistant Coach, Josh Henson, is the lead recruiter on Hegarty.  Matt talked about his relationship with Coach Henson.  "He's a great guy!  I really get along well with him.  He's a fun guy to talk to."

Hegarty also plays basketball, and throws the discus and shot put for his school's track team.  He reported a vertical jump of 27", a maximum squat of 535 pounds, and a maximum bench press in the range of 275 pounds.

I asked Hegarty if he's begun to narrow things down.  He replied, "We've kind of looked at it.  But, there's still a few more visits I'd like to make.  We've been around to a few places.  But, I'd really like to get around and see everything before I really start making decisions."

He continued, "I'd really like to get around, and visit, and kind of see the whole spectrum."
