The Missouri Tigers continue their search for some talented offensive lineman in the 2011 recruiting class by offering an Oklahoma sleeper who it appears is about to blow up among Big 12 and Texas schools.
Del City (OK) OG Jamelle Naff 6'4" 311lbs picked up an offer from the Tigers on Wednesday according to his high school coach Nick Warehime when asked about his players recruitment.
"Yes, sir. Missouri offered Jamelle this week."said Warehime. " I believe it was on Wednesday that he got it. I know I have been in contact with the Missouri coaches and they have liked what they have seen from Jamelle. So after evaluating him they offered."
Naff is a bit of a sleeper in recruiting circles, but that all appears to change now that the Tigers have offered. Other Big 12 and regional schools appear ready to come calling.
"Besides Missouri, Texas Tech has been by here recently as has Kansas State. They both seem to have a lot of interest in him. Jackie Shipp from Oklahoma has inquired about him and will use a visit to come see him. Oklahoma State, TCU and other schools are also trying to get in on him."
I asked Coach Warehime to describe Jamelle Naff's as a prospect and what he has to offer a team like Missouri.
"Jamelle has a great upside. He has great great feet, athleticism, is strong and can really run at 311lbs. He is a lean 311lbs and not overweight. He is one of those guys who after college could possible play at 340lbs and still be athletic. He has a tremendous first step and explodes off the ball. He is a great leader, is very coachable and comes from a great family. We took over when Jamelle was a 9th grader and we went 1-9 that year. We have built the program up and won 7 games this past season and a big part of that was because of Jamelle."
"He plays tackle for us but I know Coach Henson has talked to me and Jamelle about moving him inside to guard or even possibly center."
Missouri being the first to offer is important, as is Coach Warehime's relationship with Coach Henson, who is Naff's primary recruiter.
"I don't really know Coach Pinkel, but have known Josh Henson since he was at Oklahoma State and he is a great guy and recruited and built relationships around here for some time. I trust him a lot and I think he and Missouri would be a great fit for Jamelle."
Coach Henson isn't the only member of the Tiger staff Warehime is familiar with.
" My son played at Tulsa back when Pat Ivey was strength coach down here. I think he is just tremendous at what he does getting kids to be at their peak physical condition. I know my son loved it working for Coach Ivey. That is another reason I think Missouri would be a great fit. It's just another thing I know about them that I can share with his parents to help them make a decision on a school."
I asked about any possible plans for a visit coming up.
"Coach Henson and I have talked about and they want to get him up there to see things. I know they have a great school with great facilities and I know that would help Jamelle's decision about them. Right now it is in the works to get him up there for a visit sometime soon."
