ShowMeMizzou.com continues to track down offensive lineman from across the country that appear to be popping up on the Missouri Tigers target board as possible recruits for the 2011 class.
We recently spoke with Tarpon Springs (FL) OT Zach DeBell 6'7" 265lbs 4.9 who has seen his recruitment soar this spring after a strong NFTC combine showing, and tour of multiple colleges in the South. DeBell appears to have received a verbal offer from the Tigers.
"I don't have a written offer yet, but I called Coach Henson from Missouri, not this week but the week before I think,I have been interested in Missouri and wanted to know where things stood, so I talked to him about things and it came up that they (Missouri) would like to offer me."said DeBell."I thanked him and told him it was exciting to have a school like Missouri be interested. Missouri and Michigan are my latest, both verbal, so that's cool."
"Coach Henson has been down here before and checked on my academics and that," DeBell continued,"and said that he would be coming down again sometime before the end of May. We will still be in spring ball then."
Zach said that he wasn't real familiar with Missouri, but that he knew a little about them and was interested in finding out more.
" I know it's a good school and good program. They have gone to bowl games recently and I know they have a new contract with Nike. I hope to find out more about them over time."
I asked if he would possibly take a visit to Missouri before the school season.
" I have taken a bunch of unofficial visits already. I call it my spring tour since I have been to Georgia Tech, Georgia, Clemson, Miami, North Carolina and others in such a short period of time. I would like to make it up to Missouri sometime over the summer if possible. If I can get my parents to spring for plane tickets. I don't know if I would want to drive that far after my recent tour, so I would want to fly up there."
With a total of 19 offers already, including offers from UCLA,Georgia Tech, Clemson, South Carolina,Rutgers,Michigan, Louisville, Kentucky, Purdue,Iowa St., and USF on the list. However, DeBell says that he isn't close to having a list of favorites yet.
"I am pretty open at the moment. I am interested in all the schools that have offered me. As far as Missouri goes, they are high up there on their level I have them at. I have schools on different levels, but I am not close to narrowing things down or coming up with a favorites list."
DeBell told me that all the schools recruiting him are looking at him playing left tackle in college. He said that he played some D-line as a freshman and sophomore, but that he would play offensive in college.
We'll continue to keep you updated regarding Zach DeBell's recruitment and Missouri.
