2012 DT Already In High Demand

Missouri Tigers among the programs that interest top defensive prospect

Edwardsville (IL) is home to one of the top prospects in the country for the class of 2011 with RB Rodney Coe. Coaches flock to the school to recruit Coe entering into his senior year.

College coaches are hoping to make it a two for one trip when visiting as the Edwardsville Tigers also have one of the top prospects in the country for the class of 2012 in massive DT Vincent Valentine 6'4" 298lbs 5.1 forty.

ShowMeMizzou.com had the chance to catch up with Valentine recently and talk about schools that already have an interest in his talents and have extended verbal offers.

"It's been crazy and a a lot of fun." said Valentine when asked about the early attention from colleges. "It is really exciting. I have about 10 or 11 offers. I kind of lost track but I remember having offers from Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Missouri, Iowa,Arkansas, Illinois,Michigan,Auburn,Kansas and Kansas State. I think there is one more that I might be forgetting."

It is easy to see why colleges are already after Valentine. He plays a hard position to recruit and clearly stands out physically and with his athleticism. He has tremendous upside.

I asked his thoughts on the Mizzou offer and how he felt about the Tigers.

"I like them a lot. They are close to home and I have seen them play a lot on TV and stuff. I camped with them two years ago and I liked Coach Pinkel, he gave nice speech at the end of camp, and I liked  the coaches. I have seen Coach Ford at my school. He recruits here and I know they are recruiting Rodney (Coe) pretty hard."

Speaking of Coe, I had to ask the question of them possibly attending the same college and if they had talked about it.

"Yeah, we talk about it a lot. It would be nice but I will have to wait and see where he picks and make the decision that is best for me in the end. I hope we do wind up at the same school."

And what will he be looking for when it comes time to make his decision?

" I will weigh all my options. I am looking for a school with good academics and a great football program and tradition. I am not afraid to go away to school. I also don't mind playing close to home."

Valentine also said that he would be taking a few road trips this summer starting in June, but that he may attend Mizzou's camp in St. Louis if not on the road.

" Rodney and I have a tour of some schools that we are suppose to be talking in the South to places like Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, Oklahoma and a few other schools. I am not sure if it is that week of June or not. Right now I am just wide open and taking everything in."

Vincent Valentine is also a standout in track in the shot put and self reports a 300lbs bench and 405lbs squat.
