Mizzou Team Camp 1

A look at some of the top prospects at Missouri team camp

Missouri's first team camp featured several prospects from near and far. Besides Gunner Kiel and Kellen Jones, about whom we've already reported, there was 2011 Missouri offer, RB Kody Walker 6'1" 225, and a host of other prospects who participated in the three day event. Here's a rundown on some of the notables.

Walker led a Jefferson City contingent that also featured 2012 WR Daniel Ajuzie 6'3" 180, Devon Moore, 2012 ATH Michael Washington 6'3" 210, 2011 DL Hampton Mayson 6'2" 245, and 2013 DT Q'Juan Curtis 6'1" 255.

We are of course familiar with Walker, who is trying to decide between Missouri, Arkansas, and Minnesota as a college destination. Kody would like to take his time and wait until later in the season, but both Arkansas and Missouri have indicated to him that they need to know sooner rather than later. Missouri DT and former Jefferson City Jay, Terrell Resonno was a regular presence among the Jefferson City contingent, and is well-known and well-respected by everyone associated with the Jays program.

Ajuzie is a very talented WR who reminds me a little of current Tiger L'Damian Washington. Ajuzie is very smooth, has good hands, and has reportedly been clocked in the 4.4s in the forty-yard dash. I watched Ajuzie make several catches where he turned his body around to receive the ball without breaking stride or even veering off course.

Washington is the son of the former Missouri running back of the same name. He's a multi-talented athlete with excellent size, but may be facing eligibility issues this season due to having transferred from Helias.

Curtis is an outstanding prospect, extremely strong and explosively quick off the ball, who was pretty much unblock-able during camp. He's already established as a starter on this talented Jays team, and spent most of camp across the line of scrimmage.

There were several prospects participating in this camp from Fort Zumwalt West. 2012 QB Drew Hare 6'2" 185 was very impressive, and appears to be surrounded this season with several capable targets, including 2012 RB Ray Harris 5'9" 185, 2012 WR Kyle Echols 6'2" 175, DB Austin Reed 5'10" 185, Matt Quarles 5'6" 165, and Brett Uhlemeyer 6'2" 195.

Another exciting prospect at this camp was 2013 TE Calvin Blank 6'5" 225 Terre Haute (IN) North. Blank's older brother was the coach at Montgomery County a few years ago, and the younger Blank is a glue-handed athlete who looks like he could catch passes in his sleep. He's not a speed demon, but shows good athleticism and explosion.

MICDS 2012 QB Thomas Militello 6'3" 180 was also among those who attended camp this week. Militello combines a strong arm with good athleticism and 4.57 speed.

TE Zach Boerboom 6'5" 245 Cape Girardeau (MO) Central is a likely D-1 prospect who caught passes, and people's attention, this week.

A trio of 2011 linemen who received substantial attention during this week's camp were OL Gavin Frevert 6'3" 265 Jefferson City (MO) Helias, OL Connor McGovern 6'6" 275 Fargo (ND)Shanley, and OL Andrew Ness St. Louis (MO)CBC. Frevert's a tough, hard-nosed player who will probably play some college ball. McGovern has the size, and made a positive impression on everyone. We'll have more on him a little later.

It's obvious from observing the first week of camps that the Tigers emphasis is in finding offensive linemen for the 2011 class.
