Jones Weighing His Options

Texas Linebacker gives us a rundown about the latest in his recruitment

Just when he thinks he has things narrowed down a new school seems to enter the picture for Houston (TX) St. Pius X LB Kellen Jones 6'1" 210, and confuses the decision process even more.

Jones, who received an offer from Missouri among his first offers and has visited Columbia back at the beginning of June, spoke with to bring us up to speed where his recruitment is.

"Mizzou is still in the picture 100%, always." he said" I am still keeping it open though. Trying to keep an open mind."

One of the reasons for that is that more schools have taken notice of the talented LB and have come calling.

"Several new schools have offered or tell me that they will be offering soon." said Jones. "Besides the offers from Missouri, Michigan, Purdue, Virginia,Illinois, Indiana, Kansas and Kansas State, I was told that I will be receiving offers soon from Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Oregon and Oregon St. coming my way."

Did the new schools entering the picture come as a surprise to Jones?

"It was a little bit. Coach Venables from Oklahoma came down to see me during spring ball. It's an honor to be considered by a school like Oklahoma."he said. "The A&M coaches want me to visit, which I probably will in July, and they tell me I will get an offer once I do."

And what about the Pac 10 schools and their distance from Texas and his family?

" I like both those schools.I really like all the schools that are recruiting me, That is what is making things so tough. Just when you think you have it narrowed down another school comes along. Oregon has been pretty good recently and so has Oregon State. I don't have a problem going that far away. I am ready to be on my own and if that is where it's best for me then my family supports me."

Jones told me that he plans to try and make unofficial visits to some of the closer schools such as Kansas and Kansas State along with Texas A&M. Besides Missouri, he has also visited Michigan, Purdue, Indiana and Illinois.

He would like to visit Virginia, but said that he would probably have to take that as an official visit.

Regarding a timeline for a possible commitment, Kellen tried to come up with one.

" I am thinking sometime during or after my senior season. I am keeping an open mind and want to take some official visits before I decide."
