After a recent practice, freshman TB Marcus Murphy 5'10" 175 4.48 stopped by and visited with ShowMeMizzou for a few minutes. Murphy talked about how camp has been going.
"It's going pretty good," said Marcus Murphy. "I just knew that, coming to the college level, that I'd have to come out and get used to the speed and everything that comes with it. So, it's going pretty good."
Murphy is a multi-purpose talent who can run from scrimmage, catch passes, and return punts and kicks. Murphy is an excellent receiver, and as a ball carrier, he's just hard to catch. He seems to have been playing in this offense for years, or to have been born into this offense. Murphy talked about fitting in to the Missouri offense.
"Yes sir. That was one of my reasons for choosing Mizzou," said Murphy. "I knew that they threw a lot of passes out of the backfield, and I did a lot of that in high school. And, I feel that I'm very comfortable with that."
"Really, the biggest adjustment is the plays," continued Murphy. "I have to get used to running the different plays, different formations. And again, the speed at the college level is a big difference. But coming out here in two-a-days, I'm getting used to it. So, it's going pretty good."
Murphy reported a 35" vertical during pre-camp testing, and he said that he broad jumped just under 10 feet, and ran a 4.23 shuttle.
Murphy talked about how he's fitting into the team.
"It's a big family atmosphere out here," Murphy intimated. "So, everybody's welcoming me, and it feels pretty good."
Murphy talked about what the coaches are telling him that he needs to do to get better."I need to work on just making the right reads," said Murphy. "Making the right cuts, and again, just learning the plays, knowing what I'm doing on my assignments."
Whether Murphy plays this season, or ends up taking a red-shirt, Missouri got a real good one here. It's an absolute delight to watch him run with the football.
