Smith Among Talented Freshman Corners

Freshman cornerback Xavier Smith is among an impressive group of freshmen defensive backs

Following a recent practice, Missouri freshman CB Xavier Smith 5'11" 180 4.4 38" vertical spoke with ShowMeMizzou about his first fall camp, and the adjustment to college ball.

"It's going good," said Smith. "It's a lot more advanced. We spend a lot more time in the film room, and with the older guys on the team, learning the basic fundamentals, and making sure that we know what we're doing when we're out there."

Smith has been working with the third team defense, as well as getting some reps with the second team defense. Coach Ford has been spending a lot of time working with the corners on basic fundamentals. Smith talked about this primary education.

"He just wants to make sure that we stay on pace with everyone else," said Smith. "He puts extra time in with us. He makes sure we're all doing everything right, the little things, before we go on to the bigger stuff."

Smith talked about his biggest asset, and what he needs to improve upon.

"I'm hungry to learn," said Smith. "I'm always trying to get extra help from the older guys that are ahead of me. And, as much as they can teach me, I want to soak in."

"We're going to be a lot more physical this year," Smith continued. "We have to do that. We stress that every day................ I'm just looking to be more physical."

Xavier Smith is a great-looking corner prospect, and along with his good friend, E.J. Gaines, the Tigers may have a couple of very good corners for the future.
