Signee Spotlight: Ben Tamburello
"Navy came in with a late offer last Tuesday [January 31]," said Ben Tamburello. "When I was up there on my visit this past weekend, I just fell in love with it. Coach Niumatalolo is so cool. I think he's one of the best in the business. The facilities were top-notch. I loved the campus. It's right there on the water. The Academy has so much history and offers a world class education."
Navy's Keith Jones had been recruiting Tamburello since late December. He had several offers from the likes of Southern Miss, Tulane, UAB, Arkansas State, Western Kentucky, Troy, Samford, and South Alabama.
"My Mom and Dad were with me in Annapolis," Tamburello said. "They loved it. My Dad is really excited. My Mom was a little uneasy at first about the military, but once she saw what it was all about she agreed this was the best place for me to be. My family couldn't be any happier about my decision. Go Navy!"
Tamburello's father, Ben Jr., was an All-American at Auburn University in 1986. He went on to play five years in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles. Navy likes Tamburello at guard or center and Dad may be able to provide him with some tips.
"The triple-option is the same offense Auburn ran when he was there," said Tamburello. "I think it will suit my game. I have quick feet and get a good punch off the ball. That will be beneficial in the option attack. Coach (Ashley) Ingram is great. He went to North Alabama and knows my head coach, Chip Lindsey. He's an awesome coach, and I can't wait to play for him."
Tamburello was named Birmingham All-Metro as a senior. He also played in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic in December. He has an appointment to go directly into the Naval Academy at the end of June. Follow @GoMids
