Starter: Pablo Beltran #81 So.
Backup: Brynmor Hughes #91 Jr.
Punter Pablo Beltran returns after being the starting punter all 12 games last season. He was the first freshman punter for the Mids since Brian Schrum in 1992 . Beltran had an inconsistent year and struggled down the stretch. He punted 35 times for an average of 37.5 yards. Pablo's longest punt was 55 yards with ten punts being downed inside the 20-yard line. Beltran punted the ball better at the Naval Academy Prep School than he did last season. He might have hit the plebe wall last year. This spring Beltran punted for both teams during the Blue & Gold game. He played no favorites, nailing a 52-yard punt for the Gold and a 50-yard punt for the Blue. He averaged 44 yards on five punts for the Gold and 40.5 yards on four punts for the Blue. I believe we'll see a better performance from Beltran this season.
The backup punter is junior Brynmor Hughes. He possesses a good leg and is versatile enough to placekick or punt. Hughes suffered an injury this spring and missed the Blue & Gold game.
