Ukandu: I'm getting setup for life with Navy

Offensive lineman Chibuzo Ukandu of The Gilman School (Baltimore, Md.) signed with Navy on Wednesday, February 5th. Look inside for a Signing Day photo and quotes from Ukandu.

"Recruiting started off slow for me," said Chibuzo Ukandu. "I had to be patient and wait to see who was going to come in with an offer. At the end of the day, I narrowed it down to either Maine or Navy. I took the official visit to Maine first and really liked it up there. Two weeks later I visited Annapolis and felt like Navy was the place I needed to be.

"At Navy, it's all about the brotherhood. The team is really close and looks out for one another. The location was also a factor. It's close to home. The main thing that stood out was the opportunities that hopefully will come after football. I'm getting set up for life a with a degree from the Naval Academy and they're paying for everything.

"With football, I like that it's a run-first offense like we ran at my high school. The team is winning. They won their bowl game, they won the President's Cup, and they're going to continue to win. Coach Niumatalolo is a cool guy. He's knows what he's doing with the team. I also have a real good relationship with the offensive line coach."

Ukandu, 6-foot-3, 270-pounds, was a four-year starter at Gilman School. He played both left and right tackle and on the defensive line. In his junior and senior season, Ukandu was named first team all-State and all-Baltimore Metro. He'll begin at NAPS in the summer. Top Stories
