Lance Angulo signing day comments

Defensive lineman Lance Angulo of Holtville (Holtville, Calif.) signed with Navy in February. Look inside quotes from Angulo.

"As the recruiting process was winding down I had two offers from Humboldt State and Western New Mexico," said Lance Angulo. "Coach Johns called and asked me 'how would you like to play for us?'. The offer [from Navy] literally came out of nowhere. With Navy you get the best education possible and the opportunity to serve my nation. I visited [Annapolis] the weekend after signing day. I got to see a lot. It's a great area.

"The coaches said they recruited me because of how I play on the defensive line. They want me to play all over the line, inside and outside, like I did in high school. They were impressed with my get-off, my ability to handle being double-teamed, which I faced a lot of my senior season, and how well I control my gaps.

"My family is very pleased with my decision. The whole community here in Holtsville has shown me support and they're all happy for me."

Angulo, 6-foot-2, 260-pounds, was a three-year starter at Holtville. As a senior, Angulo was named All-Manzanita League on both offensive and defensive line. Currently, Angulo wrestling for his high school in the heavyweight division. He'll begin at NAPS this summer. Top Stories
