Navy the Cream of the Patriot League

Navy put together a stunning spring season to claim its third Corvias Patriot League Presidents Cup in the past four years. The 2014-15 cup win was the best yet as the Mids spring sports rallied behind the cause, bringing the Mids back from behind in dramatic fashion.

The race was a close one (again) with the Mids finishing on 154 points in the overall standings, just 3.5 points ahead of the 150 scored by Bucknell. This win was by .25 of a point more than last year, when the Mids were triumphant over Boston University by just 3.25 points. The Terriers once again were stiff competition throughout the year, finishing in third place with 135 points.

The Presidents Cup is split into men’s and women’s sports and the Mids finished first in the men’s standings for the first time since 2008 this year. Navy scored 74.75 points in men’s sports, beating Bucknell (70) and Army West Point (61.5) into second and third place respectively. The Navy women also had a stellar year, placing in third with 79.25 points. Importantly the Mids only finished slightly behind Bucknell (second with 80.5 points) and Boston U (first with 82 points) giving the Mids enough of a margin for the overall victory.

The Mids won the Presidents Cup on the back of their league best seven Patriot League titles over the course of the 2014-15 season. Navy was especially powerful in men’s sports where five teams took home their respective crowns. Navy were completely unbeatable in the track and field arena as the men took titles both indoor and outdoor as well as in cross country. The Navy men also won titles with their swimming and diving team and the tennis squad. The women chipped in with titles of their own in swimming and diving and rowing.

The most telling statistic about the Mids Patriot League domination over the last four years is the total number of titles won during that time frame. In winning three of the last four Patriot League Cups, Navy has won 29 league crowns across men’s and women’s sports. Bucknell is second in league titles over that time period, but the Bison have less than half the titles the Mids have with just 13. That kind of domination across all the sports on the schedule is why the Mids keep bringing home the hardware. Top Stories
