Navy Midshipmen Signing Day Spotlight: Tanner Matthews

National Signing Day is rapidly approaching for the Navy Midshipmen. The Mids usually sign about 50 players. Between now and Signing Day, GoMids.com will take a look at a few of the top Navy commits. Today we'll check out outside linebacker Tanner Matthews.

Tanner Matthews is an opposing quarterback's nightmare.  He's often quick to come off the edge to punish signal callers for holding onto the ball too long.  Matthews has the agility to be able to catch running backs while coming from the opposite end of the formation.
The Rancho Santa Margarita, California native appears to be very intelligent on the field maintaining outside containment until just the right moment when he knocks off his block and successfully makes the tackle.
It is also clear from his film that he is more than capable of defending receivers in the flat to break up and pick off opposing passes.  The three-star Navy commit had offers from five schools including Army, Hawaii, and Nevada, and will be an excellent addition to the Midshipmen defense.
