Meet the new Mids: Offensive Guards

Navy football welcomed 14 new members to the offensive line back in June. Among those 14, five were offensive guards. introduces Navy fans to these exciting five players.

Wes Mehl is a 6-4, 300-pound guard from Gilman School in Westminster, Md. He was rated a 2-star prospect by Mehl earned first team All-MIAA, and second team All-State honors playing at Gilman school in Westminster. He was also recruited by Army and Yale. In addition to football, Mehl also starred on the track and lacrosse teams at Gilman.

Niko Yaramus is a 6-3, 282-pound guard from Moon Township, Pa. Rated a 2-star prospect by Scout, Yaramus attended the Naval Academy Prep School (NAPS) last season. In 2014 Yaramus earned All-Region and All-County honors playing at Moon Area high school. Yaramus picked Navy over an offer from Buffalo. He also played basketball in high school. His brother, Aleksei, is a linebacker for the Mids.

Eric Cal is a 6-3, 288-pound lineman from Waxhaw, N.C. He earned All-State and All-Conference honors as a senior at Providence Day high school. He had an 88 percent blocking grade for a team that ran for over 3,000 combined yards. Cal also starred on the track and wrestling teams in high school.

David Shin is a 6-1, 298-pound guard from The Colony, Texas. Last season he attended NAPS. He earned first team All-State and All-District honors as a senior in 2014 at The Colony high school.

Kyle-Malik Mitchell is a 6-2, 310-pound guard from Louisville, Tenn. Earned first team All-State honors at Alcoa high school. Last season Mitchell attended NAPS. He picked Navy over Air Force and Army.
