Eckel Ranked as the 43rd Best Running Back

ANNAPOLIS, Md.-Senior fullback Kyle Eckel (Havertown, Pa.) was ranked as the 43rd best running back in the country in Phil Steele¹s 2004 College Football Preview Magazine.

Eckel was listed as a tailback in the magazine instead of fullback because of the number of carries he receives.

Carnell Williams of Auburn was ranked as the number one running back in the country, while Cedric Benson of Texas, Darren Sproles of Kansas State, Anthony Davis of Wisconsin and Justin Vincent of LSU rounded out the top five.

Eckel, who was ranked as the second-best fullback in the country by The Sporting News, is coming off a junior campaign that saw him rush for 1,249 yards and 10 touchdowns. His 1,249 yards ranks sixth in school history for a single-season, while his 1,759 career rushing yards stands ninth.

Only one Navy opponent had a back on the list. Notre Dame¹s Ryan Grant was ranked 19th.
