No upset this time; Navy 34 Delaware 20

Annapolis, Md.-- Fullback Kyle Eckel and quarterback Aaron Polanco combined for 346 yards and 4 touchdowns as Navy ran over division I-AA Delaware. Navy, who lost to Delaware in 2003, improved its 2004 record to 7-1.

After Navy stopped the Blue Hens initial drive, Navy drove 86 yards to take an early 7-0 lead. A 22-yard Aaron Polanco scoring run capped the 11-play drive. Polanco finished the day with 64 yards rushing in 15 carries.

Delaware quickly responded with a 14 play, 80 yards drive. Sonny Riccio connected on a 5-yard scoring pass to Niquan Lee to knot the score at 7-7 with 1:10 remaining in the first quarter. Riccio would go on to complete 30 of 60 passes for 259 yards.

After a failed Navy fourth down conversion attempt deep in Delaware territory, the Blue Hens marched 67 yards in 12 plays. Brad Shushman kicked a 35-yard field goal to give Delaware the temporary lead at 10-7 with 6:20 remaining in the half.

Navy retook the lead with just 2:06 remaining in the half when Polanco connected with Eric Roberts on a 6-yard scoring pass. Navy led 14-10 at the half.

After each team punted to start the second half, Navy extended their lead to 21-10 when Polanco scored his second rushing touchdown of the day, this time from 1-yard. The score capped a 12 play, 99-yard effort that consumed 5:42.

Polanco and the Midshipmen struck again just 4 minutes later when Polanco scored his third touchdown of the game to give the Mids a 27-10 lead after the extra-point kick attempt failed.

Delaware responded with a 60-yard drive that culminated when Brad Shushman kicked his second field goal of the day, this time from 23 yards.

Navy put the game away with a 4-yard Kyle Eckel run. Navy led 34-13 with just under 5 minutes remaining in the game.

A meaningless 60-yard punt return by Delaware's Sid Haugabrook with 46 seconds remaining in the game finalized the score at 34-20.

Navy improves to 7-1 and next travels to Tulane Saturday for a match up with the Green Wave. Delaware falls to 6-2. The Blue Hens travel to James Madison on Saturday.
