Navy to hold men's basketball alumni game

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Navy first-year men's basketball coach Billy Lange has announced that the Naval Academy will hold an alumni men's basketball game this Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Alumni Hall. Admission to the contest is free of charge and will feature some well-known names in Navy basketball history, including Vernon Butler and Kevin Sinnett whose jerseys hang from the rafters at Alumni Hall.

Also playing are Victor Mickel and Brian Walker who took the Mids to the NCAA Tournament in 1994, Navy's first NCAA Tournament berth since the David Robinson era. Mike Heary, Matt Sladky and Skip Victor who led the Mids to their last NCAA Tournament appearance with a 19-11 record in 1997-98 will also lace up their sneakers and play in the alumni game. Legendary coaches Paul Evans and Dave Smalley will also be in attendance to coach the former Midshipmen standouts.

"I believe that Navy basketball is one of the most tradition-rich programs in the country," said Lange. "I wanted our players and fans to feel a part of that tradition. I also wanted to welcome back some of the great players who are responsible for making Navy basketball what it is. I'm excited for this weekend's event and am looking forward to having this event continue on a yearly basis."

Fans are encouraged to stick around for the Navy varsity game at 2 p.m. against 2003-04 Patriot League Champion Lehigh. Top Stories
