GoMids.com has learned that star linebacker Brandon Boykin will visit Navy on January 19th. Navy has offered Boykin, who currently has Navy in his top 2 of the teams that have offered.
Boykin is a speedy linebacker who finished his senior season with 88 total tackles, which included 62 solos, 19 tackles for loss, 7 sacks and 4 fumble recoveries. He earned All-Region, All-District and All-Shelby-Metro honors after a season in which he led White Station High School deep into the state playoffs. Boykin was also selected to play in the Liberty Bowl All-Star game.
Several strong academic schools have already noticed Boykin, who has a 25 ACT, and extended offers. Navy, Furman and Cornell have all offered. Boykin plans to visit Furman the first weekend in January and the Naval Academy on the 19th of January. Boykin considers those two schools his favorites of the teams that have offered. Murray State and Tennessee-Martin have also offered and Boykin has gotten interest from teams such as Ole Miss, Memphis, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Stanford. Boykin's favorite is Vanderbilt but the Commodores may have ran out of scholarships to offer.
Boykin is impressed with the Naval Academy, "I really like Navy; they are definitely in my top 2 as far as schools that have offered me. I really like Coach Bohannon, he gave me an in-home visit this past week and I really like his demeanor, he is very straightforward and seems honest. The Naval Academy would be a great opportunity just because of all they could do for you and the guaranteed job you get," said Boykin.
