AREA GRADE COMMENTS
PASSING OFFENSE
C
Big improvement over last week. Navy completed 4 of 8 passes for 64 yards and NO interceptions.
RUSHING OFFENSE
A-
Gaining 521 rushing yards was a spectacular feat but the fumble in overtime ended Navy's chance at a win. Fullback Eric Kettani continues to be impressive picking up 126 yards on just 9 carries.
PASSING DEFENSE
D+
Ball State's Nate Davis completed 19 of 33 passes for 277 yards and 3 touchdowns. Allowing those kind of numbers won't win you many ball games. On the positive side Ketric Buffin did have an interception.
RUSHING DEFENSE
C-
Navy's MiQuale Lewis gained 161 yards rushing on 27 carries. Ball State picked up a total of 262 yards on the ground. Navy cornerback Darius Terry had 12 tackles, way too many for a cornerback.
SPECIAL TEAMS
D
Two blocked field goal attempts including one late in the fourth quarter likely cost Navy the ball game. This has to be fixed. The punting and kick return games were solid.
COACHING
B
Good work rolling up over 500 yards total rushing offense. Surely the field goal unit will get a lot of work this week in practice.
OVERALL GRADE
C-
A crushing loss for the Mids. Navy must now regroup and focus on beating a pitiful Duke team. If they work hard they might be able to make up for this unexpected loss when they face the Fighting Irish in a few weeks.
