Preview 2008: Navy Receivers

As part of GoMids.com's continuing preview of the 2008 Navy football season today will take a look at the receivers. The Mids open their 2008 season on August 30th against Towson in Annapolis.

Overiew: Despite the fact that they don't catch a ton of passes in the triple option offense (only 74 receptions in 2007), the Navy receiver positions are still a vital segment of the Mids offense.

Starters lost:

O.J. Washington

Returning starters:

Tyree Barnes (6-2, 197, Sr.) - A gifted blocker, Barnes can also catch. Caught 10 passes for 168 yards and 1 touchdown during the 2007 season. Had 3 catches, including a 41-yarder, in the offensive explosion against North Texas.

Others to watch:

Mario Washington (5-9, 184, Sr.)- Moved to No. 2 on the depth chart at one WR position after the spring.
Nick Henderson (6-4, 212, Jr.)- No. 3 on the depth chart behind Washington at one WR spot.
Curtis Sharp (6-4, 247, Sr.)- Bruising blocker who was in a dead heat with Thiel to take over Washington's starting position after spring drills.
T.J. Thiel (6-0, 192, Sr.)- Battling Sharp for the starter's job.

Matt Bova (6-0, 185, So.)
Greg Harrell (6-4, 200, So.)

Navy head coach Ken Niumatalolo comments
