RUSHING OFFENSE
B
Most teams would certainly get an 'A' for 346 rushing yards but Navy could have been better. It wasn't as much their total yardage as their performance in a key fourth down situation near the goal line where they were stopped short.
PASSING OFFENSE
C+
6 of 11 for 67 yards isn't too bad but the interception was a killer.
PASSING DEFENSE
C
For the second straight week Navy gave up a ton of passing yards. Ram Vela and Blak Carter both picking off Cardinal passes was a big plus.
RUSHING DEFENSE
C+
Navy held Ball State to 162 yards total offense which is not that bad. Safety Jeff Deliz led the way with 12 tackles; safety is not where you want your tackling leader.
SPECIAL TEAMS
B
Kicker Matt Harmon was outstanding making three field goals including one from 49-yards.
COACHING
B-
Not much can be said here. The TV commentators questioned Navy's decision to challenge a first half Ball State pass completion. A loss is a loss and it goes on the coaches shoulders but this loss can't really be blamed on the coaching staff.
OVERALL GRADE
B-
A hard loss that was much closer than the score indicated. Some big plays like the interception and the fourth down stop cost the Mids dearly. The Mids need to put this one behind them and get ready for a rapidly improving Duke Blue Devil team that is hungry for a win.
