GoMids.com Players of the Week

Navy beat Rice in dominating fashion, 63-14. Each week GoMids.com recognizes a top offensive player, defensive player and an unsung hero. Look inside to find out which players GoMids.com honors this week.

The Navy Midshipmen improved to 4-2 on the season with a 63-14 win at Rice. The Mids will return to Texas on October 17 to take on SMU.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

QB Kriss Proctor

Proctor saw his first extended playing time of the season and made the most of it, carrying 14 times for 82 yards and three touchdowns.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

LB Ram Vela

Vela had a triumphant return to his home state of Texas, leading the Mids in tackles with five, including 2 for losses. Vela also returned an interception 44 yards.

UNSUNG HERO OF THE WEEK

The Scheduler

It's hard to find an "unsung hero" in a 49 point win, so we'll give kudos to whoever scheduled this game. An opponent like Rice was badly needed after a very physical five week stretch that included games at Ohio State, at Pitt and against a bitter rival like Air Force. Every able player on the traveling squad saw action and key players were able to rest most of the second half of this game.

NOTE: No player can be named POTW more than three times during a season. Players also cannot be named POTW for two consecutive games.
