Wednesday Notes & Audio

Check out some brief notes and audio following today's practice as Secondary Coach Marvin Sanders talks about Jake Locker; Offensive Line Coach talks about coaching for the noise and Tight Ends Coach Ron Brown talks about his previous years at Nebraska, and the road trips they made to Seattle to take on the Huskies.

  • Talking to Barney Cotton, he said that Marcel Jones won't start at right tackle. He's been limited since back issues at the beginning of the season. But he will play, as will Brandon Thompson, who played a good chunk of the Idaho game behind Williams. Thompson even played right guard for a bit.. True freshman Andrew Rodriguez played the entire fourth quarter of the Idaho game, so it's obvious they are still trying to keep him involved.
  • The main topic of interest from today was about the crowd noise in Washington. As you recall, tight ends coach Ron Brown coached for the Huskers when they went to Washington in the early-90s as well as the late-90s. Ron said that it is indeed one of the loudest places he's ever been to. That as well as Sun Devil Stadium in Arizona.
  • Just as a point of curiosity, I asked if they could foresee going an entire game without doing any vocalization outside of the huddle, meaning no audibles throughout the game. Brown said that he knows some offenses are designed that way so that communication that way is very limited. But it seemed obvious that there are certain aspects of the offense that will still be vocal instead of silent counts, hand and foot signals, etc.
