Burke has started 20 games for the Huskers this season and is averaging 6.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists per contest. Periago has been one of NU's most reliable performers off the bench, averaging approximately three points and three rebounds per game. Earlier this season Periago set a school record by hitting all five of her three-point attempts at Indiana.
Both Burke and Periago will be candidates for first-team academic All-Big 12 recognition later this season because of their work on the classroom and on the court.
Four Husker freshmen also earned their first spots on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, led by rookie sensation Jordan Hooper. The 6-2 forward from Alliance, Neb., has not declared a major but owns nearly a 3.5 GPA.
In order to be recognized by the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete must record a 3.0 or better grade-point average the previous semester.
Overall, Nebraska had 358 student-athletes across 23 varsity sports recognized by the Big 12 for the fall semester, including 43 student-athletes with perfect 4.0 grade-point averages.
