"I'm getting a lot of interest from South Dakota State, North Dakota State, and still a little bit of stuff from Iowa and Nebraska," said McGinnis to Big Red Report. "The FCS schools have definitely picked up. The University of South Dakota and also Northwest Missouri State are showing me interest.
"I'm planning a big summer full of camps. Right now I'm going to Nebraska, Iowa, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, and Missouri...I really feel like a good couple camp performances can put me on the map. We will see what comes of it."
Last season, McGinnis took a backseat in the Crete offense, turning around and handing off the ball to a 2000 yard rusher. But, he did still manage to throw for over 1400 yards and 16 touchdowns, showing his senior year he could do big things.
"I have put on about 10 to 12 pounds since football season and have gotten a lot stronger and bigger," said McGinnis. "I want to show schools that I'm dedicated and that I work hard in the weight room. I have also been working on my speed and want to show them that as well.
"I'm looking for a place that I feel comfortable with the coaches obviously, but I want to go somewhere where I can actually play. Being a quarterback, you want to play. I also want a place where they are winning."
Winning is something McGinnis has gotten used to. Last year, he led Crete to a 13-0 record, putting up 32 points a game.
While he didn't do the spring game tours like some recruits do, he did check out Nebraska's for the second time in 2011.
"It was good. The atmosphere was pretty cool. I was able to talk to Coach Cotton briefly when I was there," said McGinnis. "We didn't really talk about anything important. Just basic stuff."
Big Red Report will catch up with the Crete product after he attends Nebraska's summer camps.
