OLB Trey Johnson Profile
The Tigers offered Central Gwinnett High School sophomore Trey Johnson on Friday afternoon.
"I got a text message from my coach and he told me that Clemson had offered me," Johnson told CUTigers.com earlier this week. "I remember [a Clemson coach] being at my practice later that day."
The coach from Clemson was defensive ends coach Marion Hobby. The offer is one that's near and dear to Johnson's heart.
"I wasn't really expecting to get it," he said. "Usually I hear about which coaches are coming by that day. I didn't hear about it then.
"It was kind of a big deal, because that's the alma matter of my Godmother."
Johnson, a rising junior, holds over 20 offers. The 6-foot-1, 208-pound outside linebacker has already received tenders from Auburn, Alabama, Florida State, Georgia Tech and USC.
More are expected. For now, "it‘s kind of early" to name any favorites.
He plans to head to Florida and Auburn this summer for camps. Visits have already been made to Florida, Florida State, Alabama and Georgia.
A visit to Clemson is "most definitely" on the horizon.
Johnson has three things in mind as he continues to look for the right fit.
"The first thing is academics. The second thing is how I'll fit into the defensive scheme that the team is running," he said. "The depth of the team, who all they have there."
As a sophomore, Johnson finished with 152 tackles (21 for loss) and seven sacks.
