"My dad called me and told me the news. Or at least what everyone was saying," said Nebraska signee Blake Headley from Millard South. "I have met him a couple times and he seems to be a really nice guy. Obviously he knows his stuff with his experience as a player in the Majors. I'm excited to get the chance to play for him. It seems like he will turn the program around."
A three sport athlete at Millard South, one of the big reasons for Headley committing to Nebraska was because of former head coach Mike Anderson.
"I'm disappointed that I didn't get a chance to play for Coach Anderson, a guy who who lets you play at the highest level in college and sees that talent in you. It will be interesting to see what happens. It will be a good change, I think it's a good choice," said the infielder. "Everyone knows who Darin Erstad is. It's not like he is just some guy who played Major League Baseball. He was an All-Star and succeed in the Majors. I think recruits will really see it as a plus when it comes to Nebraska, that they will get to play for a guy like him.
"A lot of people have been talking about how he really doesn't have a lot of coaching credentials, but when you play in the Majors, you have to coach yourself a lot. You know the game of baseball. I think it's a great move."
Fox Sports also reached out to No. 1 high school baseball prospect Bubba Starling, a Nebraska commitment to get his thoughts on the hire.
"I haven't gotten to talk to him yet. But he'll be a great coach. I'm excited to play under him."
