Rippy talks Nebraska offer

The Huskers have one linebacker in the 2012 class in Michael Rose, but there is at least one more spot for a linebacker in what should be a small class for Nebraska. Nebraska has been hot on the trail of a few linebackers nationally and they have continued to extend offers. A late one just went out two weeks ago to a linebacker on the east coast. What are his thoughts on Nebraska?

McKees Rocks (Pa.) Sto-Rox HS linebacker, Deaysean Rippy, has been doing a lot of team oriented things this summer. He plays for an all-star seven on seven team called "The Goon Squad" and has been traveling around the nation doing tournaments.

"It's going good so far," Rippy said. "I have been really busy doing seven on seven with our all-star team. That's pretty much about it. We have been traveling with that.

"I haven't been doing anything individually or just like a combine. There's no point in me doing something like that. I am also getting in some workouts with my team."

When Rippy is able to work out with his team he says that there isn't just one thing that he is working on before the season gets here. He's looking to improve in every area and on both sides of the ball.

"I just want to get better. I am not focusing on that one thing. I am focusing on everything. I want to work on how I cover, how I press, how I blitz and even how I catch the ball and run my routes."

Rippy has taken a few trips this summer and if he has a chance he would like to take a couple more. He just isn't sure if he will get that chance or, if he does, which schools will get a visit.

"I took an unofficial to Auburn and a few other places. I plan on taking a few more, but I am not sure to where. I would like to get as many in as possible."

The summer is critical to Rippy's recruitment. He plans to enroll in the spring at a college of his choice and he's not sure if taking official visits during his senior season will be a good idea.

"Since I graduate in December I need to take official visits when I can. It's going to be hard. I don't want to take a couple of days off and let the team down by not being at practice."

As of right now there isn't a team that Rippy knows will get an official visit. He claims that he is wide open. "No, not yet. My recruitment is wide open. It's hard to know who I am going to take my officials to and when I will take them."

When Rippy makes his college decision it will be based on the opportunity to play college football. Rippy knows though that academics will be the number one reason he picks a school. When it comes to the team he is looking at some key areas.

"I am going to college on an athletic scholarship to play football, but my main focus is going to be on the academics. After that I will look at playing time, the coaches and the team environment. Distance isn't a factor to me."

Rippy is already sitting a good number of offers, but he picked up a late one two weeks ago. The Huskers offered Rippy and although it's late and he doesn't know a lot about them he says that they are in the mix.

"Nebraska offered me maybe two weeks. I don't know much about Nebraska. I am planning on researching them a lot more. They are a team that is in the works."
