Lincoln, NE - Rewind to May. Ask any hardcore Nebraska football follower or media member this question.
How many of the freshman running back will red-shirt?
The answer you would have gotten would be probably one, maybe two. The debate was which one out of Aaron Green, Ameer Abdullah, and Braylon Heard would be able to take some load off of Rex, while the other two learn the system.
Now just a game into the season and the answer will be zero. It's hard to keep talent off the field. Talent that wants to play now.
"I thought about it a little bit, but really I didn't make a big deal of it," said Nebraska running back's coach Ron Brown. "The way a season goes, there is a good chance you are going to need them all.
"They all bring something to the table, so I didn't feel bad about it...I read their body language. They all wanted to play. So I said, okay let's go."
Nebraska offensive coordinator Tim Beck has to agree with Coach Brown. There was even an offensive set on Saturday that featured all three in the backfield at once.
"I think they have the poise to get it done, they definitely have the talent. We just need to keep it going," said Brown.
