Lincoln, NE - Shortly after Ameer Abdullah visited Nebraska's spring game, he was asked by if he thought he could make an impact on special teams in the fall for the Huskers.

"After watching Jamal, wow, he looks scary good. That's my boy, we talked for a long time in the locker room after the game. He is just another great player in this freshman class we have coming in," he stated.

"I told him ‘you made some highlight plays out there, but I can do some of the same things'. He said he welcomes the competition."

Competition brewed during the spring, with Abdullah beating out Turner despite the Texas product's extra time working out with the team.

So far, so good.

After coming close to a few breakaways during the UTC game in week one, Abdullah hit a home run on Saturday night, taking a kick return 100 yards for a touchdown.

His 211 yards returning was an all-time Nebraska single-game record.

Not bad for a freshman.
