Kinnie on the Upswing

Nebraska senior wide receiver Brandon Kinnie had three catches for 31 yards last week. Not exactly numbers to call home about, but for Kinnie it was a stepping stone.

Lincoln, NE – For the first time in a long time, Nebraska was supposed to have the perfect blend of talent at the wide receiver position.

With speed demons like Jamal Turner and Kenny Bell, they knew they would be able to go down field. With tight end Kyler Reed, linebackers would be exposed. And with senior Brandon Kinnie returning, Nebraska would have their go to possession receiver. Sure Kinnie could go downfield, but he was more effective in the intermediate passing game.

Kinnie hoping last week was a sign of things to come
But four games into the season, Kinnie only has five catches for 38 yards – three receptions coming last week against Wyoming. Going into the game, he had more drops in three weeks than catches. Not exactly numbers expected from Nebraska's leading receiver last year.

"Trust me, Brandon Kinnie is not lacking for confidence," said Bo Pelini during his weekly press conference.

So what is it? There has been obviously a problem, whether it was mental or physical. But it's the hope that Kinnie's performance last weekend was possibly a sign of things to come.

"Saturday helped out a lot confidence-wise," said Kinnie. "I'm getting a feel for it."
