But now, with signing day less than two months away, Westerkamp is reconsidering his options. He's still strongly committed to Nebraska, but with no other officials visits taken, he looking to possibly get out and see elsewhere.
"I received an offer from Notre Dame and I am considering going to visit," Westerkamp told Big Red Report. "My parents and I feel like I just need to consider all my options. I am still committed to Nebraska. This is the most important decision I have had to make in my life and I want to explore every option and be 100 % sure I do what is best for me and my family."
At this point, BRR doesn't read much into the visit. It's not that uncommon for recruits who have been committed for some time, to consider taking an official elsewhere - especially with fellow recruits visiting a new place every week.
Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini is scheduled to visit Westerkamp this week for an in-home visit. The topic of official visits elsewhere is sure to come up.
"I told Coach Garrison about it, so I'm sure we will talk about it more during the in-home visit," said Westerkamp.
The senior racked up over 4600 yards receiving and 68 touchdowns during his time with Montini Catholic in Illinois. For his efforts during his senior year, he was named the Chicago Tribune 2011 Football Player of the Year.
