Back in Kearney

Can Nebraska convince another Kearney product to walk-on as a kicker? It appears a possibility.

Spencer Lindsay, a 2012 kicker from Kearney, says he should know where he's headed to play college football soon.

"I'm going to Nebraska on January 15th for the walk-on meeting. Coach Cotton called me up and asked if I could come over," said Lindsay to Big Red Report. "I will be also visiting Northwestern Missouri State on the 18th.

"Plus North Dakota State called me up and I will be taking an official visit on the 21st. So I should have a decision some time after that."

Lindsay went 6-for-9 on field goals this year, with his long being from 46 yards. Playing both offense and defense as well, his misses were usually because he was fatigued.

"I was on the field all the time, so at times it was pretty tiring," said Lindsay. "One of those misses came from 46 yards and was dead into the wind...on extra points, I went 33-for-33."

Despite not being offered a scholarship, Lindsay is not afraid to take a leap and head to Lincoln. He's seen others more than earn their way onto the field.

"Seeing Brett (Maher – another Kearney product) and even Alex Henery do what they have at Nebraska shows me there is a chance to get on the field," said Lindsay. "Growing up in Nebraska, every kid wants to be a Huskers, but I also think that it's smart to consider all of your options. Nebraska is a great program and has had a lot of success, but I need to be sure of what I want to do."

Lindsay will contact Big Red Report after his official visit to North Dakota State on the 21st to inform us of his decision.
