Huskers or Nittany Lions?

Nebraska seems have been toying with the idea of bringing in another tight end in the 2011-2012 class to go along with Sam Cotton. The Huskers hosted Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha tight end Brent Wilkerson this weekend that has been a Penn State commitment. Find out what he had to say about the visit to Nebraska…

Brent Wilkerson is already back home after an official visit from Nebraska. The standout tight end from Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha said that he really didn't get to sleep before needing to get on a plane this morning to get back home.

"I am back home," Wilkerson said. "I am actually back in Washington D.C. right now. I got up at 3:45 this morning to get to the airport. I didn't get a lot of sleep from the night before. It's been a full day."

Wilkerson got to Lincoln on Friday and the academic side of the visit was set up for him that day. He was able to meet some of the players as well, but most of the football related side of the visit was left for Saturday.

"I got in Friday morning to Lincoln. On Friday I met with all of the academic people, got a chance to meet with all of the coaches, met some of the players and that was it. It was pretty laid back. I also met with some of the professors and the life skills people.

"Saturday was more about the football side of the school. I got a chance to take a tour of the facilities, saw the locker room, met with some more of the players and also met with some of the people associated with the program."

One of the things that you miss out on at Nebraska in January is the game day experience. Wilkerson said that there were some videos for him to watch that showed what it was like in Lincoln on game day weekends.

"I got to watch a couple of videos about what it's like there on game day. They told me that there is nothing like a game day in Nebraska. They also told me that some of their fans are pretty crazy about their football. It would have to be a pretty fun game day experience."

Wilkerson said that he was hosted by a senior tight end and then spent time with a redshirt freshman tight end on Saturday. There were some other players around with him from time to time this weekend too.

"My host was Ben Cotton and his brother Jake Cotton was there. I also spent some time with David Sutton one of the other tight ends. I hung out with a couple of other guys too. A couple of wide receivers and cornerbacks were there too."

The visit didn't get a perfect score from Wilkerson, but it was a high score. He said that he really liked the coaching staff, the facilities and how Nebraska uses their tight ends. He wishes that he could have seen Lincoln on a game day.

"I would say that it was an "8" or a "9". I would say that I liked the coaches the best there at Nebraska. I liked how they showed me how they wanted to use me on the field, seeing their facilities and seeing what Lincoln is all about. I wish could have seen the game day atmosphere there."

Wilkerson has been a Penn State commitment, but he admits that he's opened it up again a little bit. Wilkerson says it's really two teams that he's considering and he will take his second and final official visit next weekend.

"It's just Penn State or Nebraska for me. It's down to those two. This visit puts Nebraska right up there with Penn State. I am going to take a visit to Penn State next weekend and I need to meet their head coach, see if he has the characteristics that I am looking for in a head coach and just see what he's all about."
